Hot Water, Cold Water, and Mixed Water Temperatures

We did a science lab today.  We measured the temperature of hot and cold water and recorded it.  The students were in groups of three.  As a group they decided if they were going to use 2 cups of cold water and 1 cup of hot water, 2 cups of hot water and 1 cup of cold water, or one cup of each for their mixed water temperatures.  We had a nice mixture of choices.  Then they measured this temperature.  After sharing aloud these numbers, the students recored on a sheet all three temperatures.  It was a very enjoyable afternoon of learning!  We have a science binder where we keep all of our science notes, information, and experiments.  All of these papers will come home when we complete the unit.  Ask your 2nd grader what role he/she had in the experiment today.  Tomorrow Pam Holz, Washington County Naturalist, will visit.  We are going to learn about the water cycle!!

Until next time....

What Did You Do At School Today?

Do you ever ask your 2nd grader this?  Ever get this for an answer...."nothing"?  Here is a website to help you with questions to ask.  It is a great way to start a conversation with your student.  Let me know how it works!

Ready For the Week

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend for the students.  It is going to be a great week.  We are going to use thermometers to check the temperature inside our classroom and outside too, read a story about a spider and also do some writing.  Looking forward to the week.  Until next time....

Mystery Person

Today we had our fifth successful MYSTERY PERSON!  This means tomorrow our class will enjoy an extra 15 minutes outside!!  A MYSTERY PERSON is chosen every day in our classroom.  If that person makes good behavior choices all day long, his/her name is announced at the end of the day.  If that person does not make good behavior choices his/her name is not announced and we have to wait for the next day. Once we have 5 successful days then our class earns a special treat.  Tomorrow we will decide what we are working toward next!
