Thanks to everyone who came to Parent Orientation tonight!  It was great to talk about 2nd grade happenings.


If you weren't able to come, I will be sending home some sheets that were discussed tonight for you to look over.

2nd Grade Parent Meeting

Please plan to come to 2nd Grade Parent Orientation on Tuesday, August 31 from 6:00-7:00.  We will meet as a large group in the gym to go over basic 2nd grade information.  We will then move upstairs to our classroom where I will go over information specific to our classroom.  This will also be a time for you to ask any questions you have about 2nd grade!  I hope you will be able to come and join us!


It will be a very informative hour!


I just found out after school tonight that our class will be going swimming on Wednesday from 1:30-2:15 at the YMCA.

Classroom Newsletter

Every Monday a newsletter will come home.  I will post the newsletter every Sunday night or Monday morning.  There will be a paper copy that will come home in the Take Home Folders.  Each newsletter will be archived on the blog so you will always be able to see past newsletters.

Our Week Ends

The first week is all done!  We had such a good week.  We learned many procedures but all necessary to put into place for the coming year.  Everyone did such a great job!

On Thursday, we started the "Mystery Person" in our room.  Each day Mrs. Hippen draws a name from our jar of sticks.  The sticks have each person's name on them.  The only person who knows who the person is is Mrs. Hippen.  Then, Mrs. Hippen watches that person very closely.  If that person makes great choices all day long, his/her name is announced at the end of the day.  If that person doesn't make such great choices then his/her is not announced and everyone thinks about what better choices he/she could make.  When we have five mystery people who make good choices, then the following day the class earns an extra recess.  The past two days we have had two students make great choices!  Way to go!  We have three more to go and then we will work toward another reward.  It holds everyone accountable for good behavior choices throughout the day.

Second Day of Second Grade

We made it through the first day with flying colors and the second day of second grade was awesome too! We were able to follow our schedule a little more closely today.  We went to the new computer lab and the class LOVED it!  We have a brand new program called "Success Maker" along with brand new computers in the lab!  We will go three times a week and work two days on reading and one day on math per week!  Starting soon we will take a placement test that will show us the proper level for everyone to start.  Each person will work at a level that is just right for him/her!

Looking forward to the rest of the week!  We are hoping our room starts to cool off a bit!  We are a little warm upstairs!

Back To School Magic Confetti

Here is the poem each second grader took home on Meet The Teacher night along with a bag full of school confetti to put next to his/her bed tonight.  Hopefully it will work to keep the jitters away for everyone!!  Tomorrow's gonna be a GREAT day!


The night before school is exciting and fun.  
There are always so many things to be done.
Your clothes are ready, your backpack is too.
Your classroom is full of fun things you will do.
There are so many questions that go through your mind,
All types of thoughts of every kind.
But sometimes we all get the jitters down deep
And that makes it hard to fall fast asleep.
So I've made you some magic confetti, it really is cool.
It will help you be rested and ready for school.
Just place the confetti next to your bed.  
On the night before school starts where you lay down your head.
The confetti will help you sleep through the night
And you will wake up in the morning fresh and bright.
I'll place the confetti near my bed, too
And remember, I just can't wait for school so I can see you!

Meet The Teacher Night

Welcome to Mrs. Hippen's 2nd grade blog!  I am very excited for the school year to start.  Thursday night is "Meet The Teacher Night".  Our classroom is upstairs at the south end of the building.  You can bring all of your school supplies, find your locker and desk, check out the room and meet Mrs. Hippen.
